Permanent Diaconate
Each programme offers a robust broad-based team approach to assessing the spiritual, psychological and psychosocial make-up of candidates coming forward. The assessment programme offers the individual a Grace-filled opportunity to know themselves more fully, to share this knowledge with those accompanying them in their discernment and ultimately to have the freedom to say “yes” to the next step of the journey. With this programme the Diocese or religious community has the confidence of working with trained professionals using up-to-date psychometric and spiritual assessment tools in order to gain a detailed assessment of your candidates. Psychological assessment can be a daunting prospect for anyone. The goal of St. Luke’s programme is to make the assessment as positive and relevant for future discernment as possible. For the Permanent Diaconate assessments whenever applicable we also include an informal meeting with the candidate’s spouse.
A Team Approach: Building on referral information our team of professionals including a clinical psychologist, counselor/psychologist and spiritual director work with the candidate and each other to gain a thorough appraisal of the candidate’s psychological and spiritual make-up. This team approach offers the individual and diocese/religious community the benefit of three distinct professionals focusing on bringing their expertise to the task of assessing the candidate. The Process: The assessment programme has four main parts: The referring organization will be asked to provide
all relevant information on the candidate.
St. Luke’s contacts the candidate directly
with details of the programme and to ask him/her to complete and
return two questionnaires prior to coming to the Centre.
The candidate will come to the Centre for face-to-face
interviews with each member of the team and for psychometric and
neuropsychological testing.
St. Luke’s staff gives feedback to the candidate
at the end of the assessment. A detailed assessment report will
be sent to the candidate and the diocesan/community representative
within two weeks of the candidate completing the programme. The
final stage of the assessment programme is a feedback meeting with
the candidate, diocesan/community representative and a member of
our staff.
