Saint Luke
Institute is a residential treatment programme for Catholic
priests and women and men religious in Maryland, USA. Clients come
to SLI from throughout the US and over 25 countries abroad. Since
its founding in 1977, Saint Luke has treated close to 5,000 priests
and religious.
The Institute treats a wide variety of psychological and spiritual
problems, such as alcoholism, depression, anxiety, interpersonal
problems, substance abuse, and compulsive behaviors including gambling
and sexual addictions. It programs are highly successful; more than
80 percent of clients return to an appropriate, active ministry.
Saint Luke Institute’s education
department offers workshops for bishops, major superiors, formation
and vocation personnel, as well as clergy and women and men religious.
The Institute conducts research on topics related to human development
and effective treatment.
Church leaders from five countries have consulted
with Saint Luke Institute about setting up similar programs in their
countries. The Board of Directors of SLI are pleased to enter into
this partnership with the Bishops’ Conference of England and
Wales.
